FIAB appoints Iberdrola as strategic partner

The Spanish Food and Drink Industry Federation (FIAB) has appointed Iberdrola, a Spain-based company principally engaged in the energy sector, as a key partner in the Strategic Framework for the Food and Drink Industry by signing an agreement in which the electric utility undertakes to support the Spanish food sector.

The agreement was signed at Iberdrola's offices in Madrid, by the Chairman of the Federation, Pedro Astals, and the Retail Manager of Iberdrola, Aitor Moso.

Under this agreement, Iberdrola and the FIAB will work together to draw up a six-year Strategic Framework for the Food and Drink Industry, designed by the Federation in collaboration with the Spanish Government and with the backing of the Ministry of Agriculture, Foods and Environment. The goal is to boost the Spanish food and drink industry as one of the key drivers for job creation and in enhancing the country's economy and image. This will be achieved by ensuring that it is in a position to compete on any global market and attract the best talent on the basis of its safety, quality and scientific and technological development.

To be more specific, Iberdrola will work in partnership with the FIAB to promote one of the six driving forces pinpointed in the Strategic Framework for meeting the challenges ahead (Efficiency, Value Creation, Internationalisation and Dimensions with a view to expansion). The focus will be on supporting talent and training for personnel in the food industry. The electric utility stands out in this area because of the ongoing commitment of its own staff to learning.

Providing training and attracting talent are investments for the future of the sector and crucial for securing its long-term survival. Not only must competitiveness be enhanced; special emphasis must also be placed on training, developing talent and adapting human resources on a continuous basis to the needs of the market on all levels.

In this regard, Iberdrola undertakes to provide its knowledge and experience, as well as identifying synergies between the company's own initiatives and the Strategic Framework.

The signing of this agreement also entitles all members of the FIAB to receive customised advice on energy efficiency from Iberdrola.

This will enable them to benefit from measures such as efficient lighting, optimising hourly energy consumption, reducing reactive energy or what is known as freecooling, which consists of the installation of smart ventilation equipment to incorporate pre-treated cold air from outside at data centres and other facilities.

In turn, the FIAB will brief the electric utility on the needs and possibilities of the Spanish food and drink industry, as well as committing to the development of joint value proposals to benefit the sector as a whole.
