Named preferred bidder to renew railway infrastructure in the UK

The consortium comprising Amey, a Ferrovial Servicios subsidiary, and Sersa has been named as preferred bidder for a contract worth 550 million pounds (around 670 million euro) to renew railway switches and crossings for Network Rail over a period of 10 years.

Network Rail, the UK's leading railway operator, has pre-selected a consortium comprising Amey (70%) and Swiss company Sersa (30%) to renew switches and crossings in its network in Scotland, the north of Wales, East Midlands, London North East, and London North West. The 10-year contract is worth 550 million pounds (close to 670 million euro), of which Amey will collect 385 million pounds (469 million euro).

The approach adopted by Amey and Sersa will enable them to complete switch and crossing renewals in eight hours, reducing the impact on rail traffic and the associated costs. This new contract reinforces the position of Ferrovial, through its subsidiary Amey, as one of Network Rail's leading contractors. The company was recently awarded a contract to electrify 250 km of railway line in southern England.
