| Carillion/Amey jv to maintain military homes in the UK A consortium comprising Amey, a Ferrovial Servicios subsidiary, and UK company Carillion has been chosen by the UK Ministry of Defence to maintain and upgrade 49,000 military homes in the United Kingdom. It will also handle maintenance of 30 military facilities in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Both contracts are for five years. The UK Ministry of Defence, via the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, has awarded two five-year contracts to the consortium comprising Amey, a Ferrovial Servicios subsidiary, and UK company Carillion to maintain military homes and facilities in the UK; the contracts are worth 775 million pounds (around 945 million euro) in total, of which Amey will receive 281 million pounds (343 million euro). Amey has a 33% stake in the first contract, to maintain and upgrade 49, 000 military homes in the UK over five years for 625 million pounds (762 million euro). Amey and Carillion will be responsible for occupancy management, building maintenance, furniture installation and statutory inspections, among other tasks. This contract may be extended for an additional five years. Amey has a 50% stake in the second contract, to maintain 30 military facilities in Scotland and Northern Ireland over five years for 150 million pounds (183 million euro). Amey and Carillion will be responsible for building maintenance, electrical and mechanical systems and improving energy efficiency. This contract may be extended for an additional five years. Both contracts are part of the Ministry of Defence's Next Generation Estates Contracts programme to improve its infrastructure. Energy efficiency and emissions reduction play a key role in both projects.
