| Mott MacDonald designs Bangalore Metro line extensions, India Mott MacDonald is providing detailed engineering and architectural services to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd during the second phase of the Bangalore Metro rail project. The consultancy is providing the detailed design of the east-west corridor (Reach 1) extension from Byappanahalli to Whitefield via International Tech Park, connecting the eastern part of the city. It consists of 16km of viaduct, 13 new elevated stations and a new intermodal transit hub at Baiyappanhalli. Mott MacDonald is also designing the 6.3km elevated viaduct in the extension of the north-south corridor (Reach 4A) from Puttenahalli Cross to Anjanapura Township, including five elevated stations. S. Pramod Kumar, Mott MacDonald's project director, said: "Our work on the second phase of this prestigious project builds on our phase one role as detailed design consultant for Reaches 3B, 4 and 4A. We're designing five underground stations, including the Majestic interchange station, as well as providing mechanical, electrical and public health engineering services for a sixth underground station." "When the transport system is finished it will be capable of carrying 1.5 million passengers per day and reduce journey times across the city. It is also expected to cut traffic congestion and fuel use, minimising both carbon emissions and road accidents, " S. Pramod added.
