| Strabag renovates city palais in Prague city centre Strabag a.s., the Czech subsidiary of the publicly listed Austrian construction group Strabag SE, carried out a challenging renovation assignment on the early Jugendstil building of the former Prague Credit Bank in Prague's city centre. The building consists of six aboveground and two underground floors with a total of 7,000 m². The renovation works already began in November 2012 and included the restructuring of office spaces as well as two apartments on the upper floors. The cost of renovation amounted to about € 15 million. After 13 months of renovation activities, Julius Meinl today opens its luxury delicatessen shop in the building. As in its famous shop in Vienna's city centre, Julius Meinl will offer a similar assortment in Prague. The works comprised the complete renovation of the building's outer and inner façades facing the main street. All ceiling structures are a combination of the original vaulted ceilings together with a new reinforced concrete slab to increase the load-bearing capacity. The roof received a new copper cladding. Interesting architectural elements are the three glass elevators as well as the glass catwalk on the second floor. The former headquarters of the Prague Credit Bank is yet another property in central Prague the renovation of which was entrusted to the Strabag Group. Strabag has already realised several renovation projects in the Czech Republic, such as the conversion of a former military barracks into the Palladium multi-functional complex. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Construction News :: home page |
