| FCC to upgrade Costa Rica's largest airport FCC, the global infrastructure and environmental services group, has been awarded a 25 million euro contract to refurbish Costa Rica's largest airport - Juan Santamaria. This is part of a planned 36.5 billion euro investment in infrastructure by the Costa Rican government. The contract, which is valued at 25 million euro, includes the construction of a hangar at Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela, 18 kilometres from San José, the capital city. The execution period is 1.5 years. Juan Santamaría International Airport is among the fastest-growing in the region, in terms of numbers of passengers (almost five million per year) and airlines, as well as cargo volume. This new contract further reinforces FCC's growing presence in Latin America - the region now accounts for 11.5% of FCC revenues (1H13 figures). Earlier this month in Panama, FCC Chairwoman Esther Alcocer Koplowitz was awarded the Business Growth Award by the Latin America Business Council (CEAL) in recognition of FCC's expansion in the region. FCC began operating in Costa Rica in 2004. Since then, it has completed major infrastructure projects such as the San José-Caldera highway (77 kilometres long) and upgrading the Heredia-Alajuela road (10 kilometre section), and several road maintenance contracts including the Barranca-Peñas Blancas highway (200 kilometres long) and roads in Cartago, the Atlantic zone, and San Ramón. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Construction News :: home page |
