BAM jv reaches substantial completion of Vale iron ore jetty in Malaysia

The joint venture of BAM International, McConnell Dowell and See Yong & Son has reached substantial completion of the jetty for iron ore transport in Lumut, Malaysia, for the Brazilian mining company Vale.

BAM, in joint venture with its Australian partner McConnell Dowell and Malaysian partner SYS, completed the construction of an 1,800-metre-long access trestle that stretches like an umbilical cord between the shore and an angle-shaped transfer platform, which finally leads on to the import jetty. The completion date has been achieved on schedule. Currently the team focuses on the construction of the export wharf which is scheduled for completion by the end of January 2014.

The jetty will be used by Vale to offload iron ore from its Brazilian mines, which will then be distributed further into Asia. Vale's Malaysian facility will play an important role in consolidating the company's Asian market position.
