| Detectronic reinforces its data analysis team  Detectronic, the hydrological survey instrument specialist, has reinforced its data analysis team with the appointment of chartered engineer, Mike Leafe. As data centre manager, Mike, a member of The Institution of Civil Engineers, brings 30 years' water company survey contracting and major projects experience to the new post. Mike will be sharing his expertise with a team of dedicated analysts at the Detectronic data centre (DDC). Mike commented, "Detectronic is a growing business and I am very happy to be joining them in this key development phase. I look forward to developing the data side of the business so that it becomes a major resource for the industry and a valuable business arm for Detectronic. Supply of instrumentation for network flow surveys is the core business, but with more data there is an urgent need for expert analysis and interpretation."Mike qualified in civil engineering at Loughborough University in 1976. He has extensive experience with leading English, Welsh and Scottish water companies, major survey companies and civil engineering contractors. The Thames Tideway Tunnels CSO monitoring and key PFI projects in Scotland at Esk Valley and Leven Mouth are just a few of the milestone projects with which he has been involved. Commenting for Detectronic, commercial director, Dave Walker observed, "Specialist survey instrumentation is only part of the story – delivering accurate and meaningful data from which action can be taken is the real objective. Raw data means little without interpretation and the purpose of the DDC is to provide this expert detailed analysis. With Mike leading the team we can offer an unrivalled level of expertise." The DDC provides water companies with daily reports that pinpoint exceptional data sets. "Abnormally low or high flows can indicate blockages or sewer network failures and so expert analysis is required to enable us to advise water companies so they can take appropriate action before flooding or pollution occurs. In addition, we also provide the more strategic data analysis for better planning and asset management," Mike added. Detectronic is best known as the manufacturer of the multi sensor flow monitor, the MSFM. This is the only flow monitor manufactured in the UK, but has established a world-wide reputation for reliability and accuracy.
