Balfour Beatty wins Hong Kong road contract

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announced today that Gammon Construction, a leading Hong Kong construction company that is 50% owned by Balfour Beatty, has been awarded a contract worth HK$8.66 billion (£720 million) to design and build a major strategic road.

The HKSAR Highways contract to construct the Southern Connection Viaduct Section of the Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link (TM-CLKL) in Hong Kong is the largest solo civil engineering contract ever awarded to Gammon Construction.

The work on the Southern Connection Viaduct Section, which is part of the 9km long TM-CLKL, includes the design and construction of a 1.6 km dual 2-lane sea viaduct between the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao-Bridge, Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities and North Lantau as well as the construction of nine smaller approach viaducts.

Work is due to start in June this year and will be substantially completed by the end 2016 and fully completed by April 2017.
