Acciona wins contract to Canal de Isabel II Gestión

It will supply electricity of renewable origin to all the facilities of the managing body of the integral water cycle in Madrid in 2014.

The company thus continues to strengthen its business of marketing energy to end customers.

For the second year running Acciona, through its subsidiary company Acciona Green Energy Developments, has been awarded the contract for electricity supplies to the facilities of Canal de Isabel II Gestión, the public body that manages the integral water cycle for the Region of Madrid. The new contract will start in 2014 and represents an estimated level of consumption of 467 million kilowatt-hours (kWh).

From January 1st 2014, Acciona Green Energy Developments, an Acciona subsidiary that works in the management and marketing of energy, will continue to be the sole supplier of electricity for another year to Canal de Isabel II Gestión. This covers water impulsion plants, drinking water treatment stations, wastewater treatment plants, regulating tanks, pumping stations, offices, etc.

With this new award, Acciona continues to strengthen its business of marketing energy to end customers; this year it expects to reach a volume close to 5 TWh. Among its customers are major companies in the field of public infrastructures and services such as Adif, Aena, Telefónica, Metro de Madrid, Roca, Tetrapak, Grupo Corío, APM Terminals and the Prado Museum.

The power supplied by Acciona Green Energy Developments to Canal de Isabel II Gestión will be certified 100% renewable, accredited by the Spanish National Energy Commission (CNE), and will be generated in the green energy plants that the company manages in Spain, with over 6,000 MW of operational capacity.

To manage the integral water cycle in the Region of Madrid, Canal de Isabel II Gestión operates 14 reservoirs, 70 groundwater catchment stations, 24 large regulating tanks and 271 smaller ones, 149 impulsion stations, 13 drinking water treatment plants, 16,200 kilometers of transport and distribution network, 125 wastewater pumping stations, 11, 148 kilometers of sewerage piping, 64 storm tanks, 751 kilometers of underwater outfalls, 154 wastewater treatment plants, 23 water recycling stations, 62 pumping stations and 214 kilometers of a regenerated water network.
