Stone+tec Nürnberg 2013: The place to be for natural stone professionals

Stone+tec Nürnberg 2013, the International Trade Fair Natural Stone and Stoneprocessing Technology, which was held from 29 May to 1 June, can look back on a successful four days. The world's fifth largest event in this industry drew around 20,000 trade visitors to the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, where they learned about the latest offerings of 544 companies in the three main exhibition segments of Natural Stone, Technology and Gravestones.

Most of the trade visitors – in particular stonemasons, natural stone dealers, tile setters, garden designers and landscapers as well as architects – came to Nuremberg from the core area of Stone+tec: Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the neighbouring European regions. The list of exhibitors was led by Germany, with over 200 companies, followed by China, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Egypt, India and Turkey.

"Stone+tec Nürnberg has flourished for more than three decades in a global market characterized by strong regional accents and an array of challenges, " said Willy Viethen, Exhibition Director of Stone+tec at NürnbergMesse. "We are convinced that with the 2013 event and its clear focus on the German-speaking part of the world we have taken an important step towards adapting this tradition-rich industry event to the requirements of today's market."

Outstanding achievements
At Stone+tec Nürnberg 2013, outstanding achievements in architecture and craftsmanship were honoured once again. The winner of the German Natural Stone Award 2013, selected from among some 60 submissions, is the construction of the E-Science Lab at the ETH Zürich by the Austrian architects Baumschlager Eberle. The German Natural Stone Award is given every two years to user-oriented indoor and outdoor projects using natural stone that are exemplary in their high architectural quality, technical-innovative deployment and sustainable construction with natural stone.

The Peter Parler Award, which honours excellent achievements in the stonemason craft in restoration and conservation, is shared this year by Markus and Christof Traub, for the restoration of the "Betsäule" (columnar figure) in Halle, and Christoph Mai, Monolith Bamberg, for the restoration and conservation of the hall choir of St. Lorenz in Nuremberg.

To support the development of young professionals, Stone+tec Nürnberg 2013 for the first time included a European competition for young people in stonemasonry. Seven young stonemasons from Austria, Switzerland and Germany tested their skill in solving the task of shaping a head of their own design from a sandstone column one-and-a-half meters tall.

The next Stone+tec Nürnberg will take place, as usual, in two years, from 13 to 16 May 2015, at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg.
