| Top award honours Thiess health excellence Australia's leading construction, mining and services contractor Thiess has taken out the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia Contractor Excellence Award for its redevelopment of Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH). Delivered under a Public Private Partnership arrangement, the $1.1 billion project is the largest hospital redevelopment in the State's history and consolidates more than 53 outdated buildings into an integrated, modern health campus. The innovative design includes a new eight-level Community Health Facility and nine-level Acute Services Building which was delivered on-budget and ahead of schedule last year. Other works include the refurbishment of the Douglas Building, multi-level car park and pedestrian link bridges. Chairman of the judging panel Rick Turchini said the project was selected because of its huge scale and Thiess' ability to manage hundreds of client variations. Thiess General Manager NSW/ACT Owen Vassie said the project is a showcase for how the private sector can deliver a complex, new brownfield health facility. Thiess' redevelopment of the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre in Far North Queensland was also a finalist in the Contractor Excellence Award category. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Construction News :: home page |
