Züblin acquires Metsä Wood Merk GmbH

Stuttgart-based Züblin is selectively expanding its range of services in the field of structural timber engineering: Following the successful integration into the corporate group of Stephan Holzbau GmbH, Gaildorf, and of the operations of Merk-Project GmbH, Züblin has now agreed the acquisition of Metsä Wood Merk GmbH, Aichach. Metsä Wood Merk GmbH, a subsidiary of Finland's Metsä Group, is a specialist in the manufacture of large-format crosslaminated timber (CLT) panels. In 2012, the company had about 100 employees and generated revenues of € 21 million.

Züblin, the market leader in building construction and civil engineering in Germany, has made it its goal in the medium term to also become leader in the timber engineering market in Europe. To this end, all of the group's timber construction activities have been bundled in an independent Züblin timber construction entity, which, following the acquisition of Metsä Wood Merk, will have 250 employees and will generate projected annual revenues of about € 50 million. Bernhard Specht, Züblin division manager for timber construction, is extremely satisfied with the new acquisition: "Metsä Wood Merk GmbH puts us in a position to also realise complex timber construction projects."
