ABB signs service contract with A/S Norske Shell in Norway

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has signed a service contract valued at $260 million for a period of 9 years with A/S Norske Shell to provide integrated service and support solutions for the Draugen offshore oil platform and the nearby Ormen Lange onshore gas processing plant on the west coast of Norway.

The agreement includes the option of two consecutive two year contracts and covers both the oil and gas fields, as well as future expansions, tie-ins and upgrades. ABB has delivered significant annual savings over five successive years since it was awarded the first service contract by A/S Norske Shell in 2007.

The agreement is prepared for deeper integration of ABB services, competence and roles into the projects of other contractors on the customer's plants, such as Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM). Optimized system design and a holistic approach to interfaces and product entities reduce costs and improve profitability.

The contract scope includes the system's integration across the electric, instrument, control and telecommunication systems. A/S Norske Shell sees the continuous improvement of its operations from maintenance through to production as a key element to improved efficiency and success.
