Hochtief to build further hydropower project in South America

Hochtief Solutions together with a partner has been awarded the contract for the construction of the Alto Maipo hydropower plant in Chile. The contract volume of the project near Santiago amounts to around EUR 215 million. Of this, Hochtief has a share of roughly EUR 150 million. The owner is the Chilean energy utility A.E.S. Gener. After the hydroelectric power plant La Confluencia in Chile which was already completed in 2011, and the Cheves hydropower plant under construction in parallel in Peru, the Essen-based Group thus secures another contract in the energy infrastructure segment in South America.

Hochtief Solutions will start the works for the new power plant in Chile in 2013. The project encompasses two complex construction lots in the Andes, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Santiago at a height of roughly 2,500 meters. The main elements are the intake structures, a total of 18.5 kilometers of tunneling and a five-kilometer-long steel pipeline. In addition, the consortium will take over execution planning. The construction works for the 531-megawatt power plant will be completed in 2017.
