| Ex-SNC Lavalin CEO arrested by Quebec anti-corruption unit Quebec's anti-corruption police has arrested former SNC-Lavalin CEO Pierre Duhaime. The Canadian Press says that the arrest was on charges including conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with a major hospital project. Mr Duhaime was invited to retire from the business, Canada's largest engineering firm, after a review conducted by the company revealed that he had authorised C$56m-worth of payments to undisclosed agents. International proceedings are also underway against former SNC-Lavalin senior executive Riadh Ben Aissa, who was already arrested in Switzerland on fraud, money laundering and corruption charges. The 101-year-old company, considered a Canadian success story, has been embroiled in scandal since the fall of the Gadhafi regime in Libya. “We have just been informed of the arrest of Pierre Duhaime,” said SNC-Lavalin in a statement. “We have not been made officially aware of the specifics of any charges that may have been laid against him and are not able to comment further." write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Construction News :: home page |
