| Mott Macdonald releases concept design for the Mosaic Stadium The Canadian city of Regina has released Mott MacDonald's concept design for a new 33,000-seat stadium in Regina, Canada. The UK-based consultancy was hired by the City of Regina in June 2012 to provide engineering, architectural and public private partnership advisory services on the CAD$278 million project. The new facility will replace the city's existing Mosaic Stadium, which is the home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club, a Canadian Football League team. Built in 1910, the Mosaic Stadium is one of the oldest buildings in the Canadian Football League and has been renovated several times. Land will be released following its demolition which will encourage much needed urban regeneration in the area. The new sunken-bowl style stadium will be designed to maximise spectator comfort. Intended to be used for longer periods, the design concept for the stadium features an innovative spectator roof, which will protect fans from the weather while still being an open-air facility. Mott MacDonald's project director Leon Higgins said: "This is a real innovation in North America, to design a stadium roof so tuned to the local environmental conditions to dramatically improve spectator conditions. We have worked closely with our architects, Pattern Design, to achieve this."
