Turner Construction Company wins AGC Awards

Turner Construction Company, U.S. leading healthcare and education builder, has been recognized by the Associated General Contractors of America's Metropolitan DC Chapter for their work with Inova Health Systems and Washington, DC Public Schools for the construction of the South Patient Tower and Takoma Elementary Campus Reconstruction.

The Inova Health System is expanding the Fairfax Campus with the 2015 Capital Improvement Program. This program consists of three main projects, the first being the South Patient Tower. This project, designed by Wilmot/Sanz Architecture, is composed of a 236,000-square-foot, 11-story addition to the existing Tower Building, and will provide 174 medical-surgical, Intensive Care and specialty beds in single patient rooms. In addition, shell space on the lower levels will accommodate future support services. The South Patient Tower project will pursue LEED Silver Certification.

The reconstruction of the Takoma Elementary Campus was a design-build effort to repair the school, which was severely damaged by a fire in December 2010, destroying the majority of the building's interior. The most challenging aspect of this project was the 6-month schedule, during which time Turner closely collaborated with the entire team – Owner, Architect, and Contractor – to meet an extremely important schedule for re-opening the school.
