Pöyry's services enable the improvement of railway capacity on Swiss-German border

Finnish consulting and engineering firm Pöyry said its Urban business group-led consortium has been awarded a construction management and supervision assignment by German DB Projektbau AG for the refurbishment and electrification project of the German - Swiss cross border railway line Erzingen - Beringen, a section of the Hochrheinbahn (Upper Rhein Railway).

The work will be carried out in consortium with German engineering consultant PTB Magdeburg GmbH. Pöyry's share of the assignment (approx. 50%) has been booked in the order stock of the third quarter of 2012. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the assignment. The work will commence immediately and the scheduled duration of Pöyry's services is 22 months.

Improvements in the Erzingen - Beringen line will enable more frequent passenger traffic across Germany and Switzerland. The intended half-hour timetable for the 12km railway line requires a double track extension and the adaptation of the infrastructure. The line will be electrified and equipped with a modern electronic signaling system. Although the Hochrheinbahn is owned by German DB AG, approximately 95 percent of the line is located on Swiss territory. The investment for the whole rail section totals EUR 80 million.
