| Ul Environment validates AirRenew for environmental claims UL Environment has completed the Environmental Claim Validation process for CertainTeed's AirRenew Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Gypsum Board products. Specifically, UL Environment confirmed four product claims: permanent formaldehyde absorption capacity, mold resistance, recycled content, and regional materials. The Environmental Claim Validations apply to AirRenew, AirRenew Extreme Abuse, and AirRenew Extreme Impact IAQ Gypsum Boards. "UL Environment offers expertise to help manufacturers make and market greener products," says UL Environment President, Sara Greenstein. "Because AirRenew has undergone the environmental claim validation process, CertainTeed Gypsum customers can have confidence that UL Environment backs the permanent formaldehyde absorption capacity, mold resistance, recycled content, and regional materials claims carried by this product." Built on a patent-pending, innovative technology, AirRenew is a first-of-its-kind product that uses two technologies to actively improve IAQ. First, AirRenew helps clean the air by capturing VOCs, specifically formaldehyde and other aldehydes, and converting them into inert compounds that safely remain within the board. Additionally, AirRenew features M2Tech technology, which is specially engineered to provide enhanced protection against moisture and mold and is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified and GREENGUARD Children & Schools CertifiedSM. AirRenew manufactured in Proctor, West Virginia contains over 90 percent total pre-consumer recycled content and may provide regional material green building credits based on project location. "CertainTeed is committed to offering superior, high performance products that are manufactured with the strictest quality standards," said Dave Engelhardt, president of CertainTeed Gypsum. "We're proud to offer further third party verification of our ground-breaking AirRenew products, as it shows our dedication to enhanced transparency, healthy indoor environments and proof of our scientific team's remarkable green building innovation." UL Environment evaluated the effectiveness of AirRenew technology, confirming the permanent removal of formaldehyde from the air. Specifically, the product was verified to have a measured permanent formaldehyde absorption capacity of 0.4 g/m2 of surface area. This confirms the previous AirRenew testing in accordance with ISO16000-23, an indoor air performance test for evaluating the reduction of formaldehyde concentration by sorptive building materials. Offering a broad range of gypsum and finishing products for interior and exterior needs, CertainTeed Gypsum has served the North American building industry for more than 80 years and is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world's leading producer of gypsum products.
