| HTL-Rankweil holds camp Around 90 future students at the HTL (technical college) in Rankweil had fun putting their technical skills to the test in a competition from Monday to Thursday. The HTL welcomed the 14 to 15-year-olds to the third HTL camp which receives sponsorship from Tridonic and Zumtobel. For the management and teaching staff at the HTL Rankweil, the aim of the four-day camp is to offer college starters an opportunity to get to know their future college and fellow students by taking part in a fun competition in a relaxed atmosphere. This involves coming up with a solution to a technical assignment. The pedagogical agenda behind it: to combine text comprehension and creativity in a playful contest. For the participants, this means forming seven-member teams and receiving a set of technical instructions such as how to build a tennis ball machine which should shoot the ball as far as possible. The teams then build the catapult with the materials provided. The best solution is rewarded and the students assess criteria such as sophistication and creativity amongst themselves. On the last day, the best three teams are awarded prizes which are provided by the sponsors Zumtobel and Tridonic. The two brands of the Dornbirn-based Zumtobel Group take an active interest in the next generation of skilled personnel and for this reason also engage with the HTL in offering practical placements as well as topics for projects and diploma work. The HTL camp has been a huge success in the past two years and has found favour not only with the management and teaching staff but also with the regional school inspector and the parents' association. The 90 participants in this year's event represented 70 per cent of the intake of new students. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Construction News :: home page |
