Energy indicator helps operate plants and rooms energy-efficiently

The Siemens Building Technologies Division is launching the energy indicator software onto the market, which can be used to check the energy-efficient operation of HVAC plants, components and individual rooms anytime and anywhere. The tool also makes it possible to adapt the operating parameters of the plants and rooms manually over the Internet, thus contributing to energy-efficient operation. With the energy indicator software from Building Technologies, room and plant operators can very quickly identify settings in their equipment that are not conducive to efficient energy consumption. The software uses a stylized, orange leaf to indicate deviations from the setpoints. A green leaf symbolizes correct settings.

Room users can freely change the plant settings and adapt them to their personal comfort levels. At regular intervals, the energy indicator lets them know whether or not the selected parameters are energy-efficient. Operators can receive an e-mail notice when a plant is not operating energy-efficiently.

The energy indicator is not only used to monitor energy efficiency but also permits intervention into the plant. Using the HomeControl iPhone app or a web browser, for example, the operator can set setpoints or correct settings changed by users via remote access. The energy indicator is easy and intuitive to operate. No special tools are needed for configuration.

The software is integrated into the OZW772 and OZW672 web servers, Version 4 and higher, and can be used with all communications-enabled standard controllers from Siemens that have a KNX or LPB communications bus, including the Synco and Synco-living systems, several Sigmagyr and Albatros 2 models as well as a number of room controllers and room thermostats. Typical applications for the energy indicator include schools and office buildings, although the software can also be used in home environments.
