| Arcadis wins major contract from Codelco in Chile Dutch engineering giant Arcadis announced that it has been awarded a major contract to provide EPCM services (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) for the largest copper producer in the world, Codelco Chile, at its Salvador Division in the Atacama Region, in the Andes Mountains. This 15-month project with a contract value of US$ 9.5 million will require the mobilization of about 100 professionals. It will be performed in cooperation between the Chilean and Brazilian offices of Arcadis. The contract for the "Engineering and Administration of the Construction, Staging, and Commissioning of the CT Slag Flotation Cleaning System at the Potrerillos Smelter, Salvador Division" concerns the construction of a smelter plant designed to minimize environmental impacts and maximize metallurgical yield. Arcadis will be responsible for overall management of the project, providing engineering, procurement and construction management services and support for the start-up of the flotation plant. The flotation process will enable Codelco to discontinue certain process steps, while treating the slag from copper concentrate smelts that were previously discarded. As a result, the process yield is higher. At the same time, the remaining flotation fluids that are disposed of in a tailings dam contain less ore-particles and water, increasing the useful life of the tailings facility. Through the new process the Potrerillos Smelter, reduces its emissions of SO2, ashes and particulate matter into the air. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Construction News :: home page |
