| Hochtief wins contract from Australia’s oil and gas industry Hochtief AG announced that its subsidiary Leighton is building large sections of a gas gathering facility for Australia Pacific LNG. The project volume is nearly EUR 352 million. Leighton's order backlog in the Australian energy sector has thus exceeded the AUD 3 billion mark (approximately EUR 2.34 billion). These do not yet include the company's long-term mining contracts. The new contract from "Down Under" comprises two projects. In addition to the gas gathering facility south of the town of Miles in Queensland, Leighton Contractors will also build a water treatment facility near Roma, Queensland. This second contract has a volume of about EUR 274 million and is being billed separately. However, both orders are part of a major project by Australia Pacific LNG to transform coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas. For the gas gathering facility, Leighton will install some 1,220 kilometers of poly welded pipeline and 1,730 kilometers of fiber-optic and power cables. The company will also be in charge of installing the well head equipment. For the water treatment facilities contract, Hochtief 's subsidiary will be responsible for the bulk earthworks, installation of sub-grades and underground services, construction of roadways, grading and drainage, and sediment ponds and water storage ponds. The water treatment facility will be completed in 2013 and the gas gathering facility in 2015. Leighton's subsidiaries have also won new contracts for the following projects, among others, in the last three weeks: In Indonesia, Thiess was awarded a coal mining contract at Muara Teweh in Central Kalimantan. It will provide mining services for the delivery of approximately 7.5 million tonnes of coal over five years. The contract volume is nearly EUR 302 million. Leighton Contractors will operate the Peak Downs Mine in Queensland, Australia for another three years and perform an extended range of services. The contract volume is about EUR 472 million. The Broad Group, another Leighton subsidiary, has been awarded single contracts for construction projects in Australia worth a total of more than EUR 234 million. This includes construction work for mining camps and associated infrastructure. Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) will cooperate on a joint venture at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) to build a new maintenance, repair and overhaul facility. HLG's share in the project is nearly EUR 118 million. HLG will also cooperate in a joint venture with ACS subsidiary Dragados for the construction of bauxite mine-related infrastructure. HLG's share in this project is slightly more than EUR 65 million. In all, in the last three weeks, Leighton has been awarded contracts worth more than EUR 1.82 billion - and not just from the energy sector. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Construction News :: home page |
