Two powerful solar rooftop solutions

CertainTeed Corporation is strengthening its position in the solar roofing industry with the debut of PowerMax and Apollo, the latest in accessible, residential rooftop solar technology, at the 2012 International Roofing Expo in Orlando. Each system offers a unique, stylish solar solution specifically designed for maximum energy generation and backed by vigorous training programs and technical support, as well as extended warranties. The Apollo Solar Roofing System features highly integrated polycrystalline solar panels that lie flat with surrounding asphalt shingles. It is lightweight, durable and resistant to wind uplift.

Also new to IRE, PowerMax Photovoltaic Modules feature rack-mounted, Copper–Indium–Selenide (CIS) thin film technology for one of the best cost-to-power ratio in the industry. Both can easily be installed on an existing roof or with a new roof that combines solar panels and asphalt shingles.

"Solar energy is fast becoming a go-to option for homeowners looking to save money on utility bills and reduce environmental impacts," said Tom Smith, president of CertainTeed Roofing. "Through the development of Apollo and PowerMax, we are partnering with building professionals and roofing contractors to offer affordable, easy-to-install solar technology that opens up new opportunities to grow their business."

Apollo fully integrates with roofing shingles for a clean, seamless appearance. Each slim, 12-pound module features 14 high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon solar cells that absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity for a power rating of approximately 52 watts per module.

Manufactured by Saint-Gobain, the parent company to CertainTeed, PowerMax is an ultra-efficient, cost-effective module solution with a sophisticated, sleek design resulting in a stylishly uniform look. With a mounting lip hiding mounting clamps, PowerMax guarantees an aesthetically pleasing rooftop appearance. Under ideal weather conditions, PowerMax can generate an impressive 100 watts plus per module.

"By providing extensive contractor training, the decision of which product to install is made easier for the homeowner, taking into account the unique aspects to each individual property, budget and climate," added Smith.

CertainTeed offers a powerful portfolio of photovoltaic roofing systems in North America, including EnerGenTM, Apollo and PowerMax.
