| Turner Construction’s team selected to construct Aspen Art Museum Turner Construction Company, in partnership with Roaring Fork Valley contractor Summit Construction, was recently selected to build the new home of the Aspen Art Museum. The Aspen Art Museum has outgrown their current facility, attracting 35,000 visitors a year from around the world. The new 30,000 square foot, four-story facility will feature 12,500 square feet of exhibition space including six galleries. Designed by Shigeru Ban Architects (SBA), the museum will be located in the heart of downtown Aspen and will incorporate design elements that highlight Aspen's world-renowned landscape. These elements include a dramatic grand staircase, an innovative "moving room" glass elevator, an exterior woven screen, and an open roof design which includes a roof deck sculpture garden and large skylights that visitors can walk on. These design elements will work harmoniously to create a dramatic and environmentally sound facility that maximizes the use of natural light. Assisting Shigeru Ban Architects will be Cottle, Carr, and Yaw Architects of Basalt, Colorado, who will serve as local architects of record on this project. Construction of the new Museum commences in early 2012, with a targeted completion date in late 2013, and Museum grand opening in early 2014. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Construction News :: home page |
