Pöyry's Urban Business Group has been awarded a contract to provide services for the design, tender documentation and site supervision phases for Line 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro, Vietnam. Pöyry's share of the assignment is approximately EUR 13 million and it has been booked in the first quarter order stock 2012.

The assignment will be carried out with Pöyry as the technical leader of a consortium. The other members include ILF Beratende Ingenieure GmbH, Germany, Obermeyer Planen + Beraten, Germany and Tedi South, Vietnam,

The project is being managed by MAUR - Management Authority for Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City. The consulting services are being financed by German KfW, which finances economic and social progress in developing countries. The project will start in February 2012, and the duration of the design and tender documentation phase will be 18 months. The site supervision phase will last an additional 5 years.

The project includes both the civil work and the system-related services. When completed, the metro line will be 11,1 km long and have 11 stations and one depot; 9.3 km of the line will be underground and 1.8 km will be on an elevated track.

Metro Line 2 will become part of a new metro network in Ho Chi Minh City, which will improve mobility for the 7 million inhabitants significantly. It will also increase public transport safety, at the same time that it reduces the pollution produced by private transport, therefore making a major contribution to the sustainability of Ho Chi Minh City's transportation system.
