| Parsons-designed Christopher S. Bond Bridge recognized by AIA Global engineering firm Parsons announced that on December 8, 2011, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recognized the Parsons-designed Christopher S. Bond Bridge with its Honor Award. In 2007, Parsons, as part of Paseo Corridor Constructors, was selected as the lead designer for the Missouri Department of Transportation's $245 million kcICON project. The focal point of the design is the 1,700-ft-long Christopher S. Bond Bridge, which enhances the skyline of Kansas City, MO, with its diamond-shaped pylon and semi-fan stay arrangement rising 300 ft off the water and creating a striking gateway experience for motorists. The suspended portion of the bridge consists of a composite/concrete asymmetrical cable-stayed system with a main span of 550 ft and a side span of 450 ft. The bridge also features a kinetic lighting system with diode panels mounted to the edge girders to allow an infinite number of lighting shows across the length of the bridge, from simple one-color panels to complex color-changing events. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
