| Hochtief consortium to plan, finance, build and operate PPP schools Hochtief PPP Solutions (UK) - a subsidiary of Hochtief Concessions - and a partner will together plan, finance, build and subsequently operate four schools in Salford. The public-private partnership (PPP) contract is worth around EUR 320.3 million/GBP 274.3 million and will run for 25 years. The investment volume is roughly EUR 97.2 million/GBP 83.2 million. Construction work has already started and will be completed in 22 months. During this time, three secondary schools and one primary school for a total of just under 3,700 students will be built. Hochtief Facility Management (UK) has been contracted to subsequently operate the new school buildings. During the operating phase, the private partner will ensure that the buildings and fit-out are kept in perfect condition. Services provided will include energy management, cleaning, security and catering. The project is the second of three phases in Salford City Council's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme under which the city's schools are being modernised. To this end the Transformational Learning Partnership consortium set up by HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions (UK) and Laing O'Rourke has founded a so-called Local Education Partnership (LEP) with Salford City Council. The two companies each have a 40 percent stakeholding in the LEP, Salford City Council holds ten percent, while the remaining ten percent is held by the Building Schools for the Future Investments LLP. During the first project phase, in 2009, the consortium was contracted to build three educational facilities, two of which have already been completed.
