SHEERFILL Permanent Architectural Membrane

As Russia prepares to host two major worldwide events, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (SGPPL) highlights the flexibility of its SHEERFILL Permanent Architectural Membrane for all types of sports and infrastructure facilities. This unique material composed of polytetrafluoroethylen (PTFE)-coated fiberglass provides structural versatility together with proven long-term durability, longevity and weather-resistance. Being featured in such prominent structures as the newly renovated BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, SHEERFILL membrane has continued to change the skyline of major cities around the world.

A variety of panel shapes can be combined into almost endless geometric configurations, allowing unlimited opportunities for imagination. SHEERFILL's unparalleled ability to create unique roof line shapes has also helped architects achieve the illusion of mirage floating above the desert in Hajj Terminal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In addition to its design flexibility, SHEERFILL's ability to transmit light and create luminous effect can result in futuristic designs. For example, the UK's O2 Dome, designed as symbol of the third millennium, made use of SHEERFILL's luminosity to capture the world's imagination, while also meeting engineering requirements behind the scenes.

"Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics can offer proven innovative solutions as Russia gets ready for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi and 2018 FIFA World Cup," says Marcel Dery, Global Sales Manager, SGPPL. "More than 30 years have passed since Russia hosted the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. With its proven track record, SHEERFILL can become an ideal architectural tool for architects to create new Russian landmarks for the 21st century to redefine the country's architectural landscape".

For the last 30 years SHEERFILL has been used in more than 900 structures all over the world. Next year, Poland's Warsaw National Stadium, constructed in preparation for Euro Cup 2012, will join the list of landmark projects featuring SHEERFILL's design flexibility.
