| Hochtief to operate nine schools and three day care centers Hochtief Concessions subsidiary Hochtief PPP Solutions is to design, finance, build/refurbish and operate nine schools and three day care centers for children for the city of Braunschweig. The project, which takes the form of a public-private partnership (PPP), has a contract volume of around EUR 279 million. Including the construction phase, the contract runs for a period of 25 years. The portfolio comprises a total of 44 buildings together with sports grounds and exterior precincts and two additional sports halls and is spread across 14 locations in the city. The schools accommodate more than 11, 000 students, while the day care centers can look after more than 200 children. Refurbishment measures are scheduled to begin in April 2012. At one of the schools, an extension is to be erected and work on this will commence in June 2012 and be completed by the start of the 2013/2014 school year. All the other buildings are due to be finished by fall 2014. All the construction work will be executed by Hochtief subsidiary Hochtief Solutions, which from February 2012 will also be responsible for operating the individual complexes. This includes repairs, care and maintenance, and cleaning of the buildings and facilities. Agreement has been reached with the municipal authorities that at least 40 percent of the subcontracts awarded during the refurbishment phase will go to firms in the Braunschweig region. Right from the planning phase, Hochtief takes subsequent operation into account and thus enables the client to implement its project efficiently. The city of Braunschweig estimates that the partnership allows it to realize the project around ten percent more favorably than would otherwise be the case. Over the entire term of the contract, this corresponds to savings of about EUR 32 million. At the same time, the subcontract work which Hochtief awards to companies in the area provides a boost for the local economy. HOCHTIEF Concessions is now responsible for a total of 107 schools, with more than 80,000 students, in Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
