| Ramboll to refurbish Gassco's Norsea Gas Terminal in Germany Danish engineering giant Ramboll has just been awarded the pre-engineering update (FEED Update) contract for the refurbishing of Gassco's Norsea Gas Terminal in Emden, Northern Germany. The major scope of work includes new receiving-, gas heating-, utilities- and process facilities. It is one of the largest projects undertaken by Ramboll within this specific area. Gassco is the operator for the integrated gas transport system from the Norwegian continental shelf to continental Europe and the UK. This integrated network comprises pipelines, processing plants, and receiving terminals in five countries. The Europipe Receiving Facility in Dornum and the Norsea Gas Terminal outside the north German port of Emden receive gas from the Europipe/Europipe II and Norpipe lines. After more than 30 years of operation, the Norsea Gas Terminal now needs to be refurbished/replaced to maintain safe and reliable gas transportation for the future. The entire work scope for the FEED until summer 2012 entails approximately 75,000 man-hours and has a total value of nearly 60 Mill DKK. Ramboll project manager, Niels Holger Olesen elaborates on the significance of this project for Ramboll. "We have worked on similar projects, such as the Medgaz project, but the scope of the Gassco Emden project is much wider, and in addition we are very excited about working closely together with Gassco, who is a major player in the Nordic oil and gas industry. When the project peaks it will give work to some 100 people in total." Ramboll has teamed up with three subcontractors i.e. Danish Balslev for the EI&T part, the German Ingenieurgesellschaft Nordwest, who will handle all civil and structural engineering in accordance with German regulations, and likewise German company TWP – who are now part of Bilfinger-Berger – for revision of German permits in relation to construction and operation of the facilities. Ramboll will handle all process, 3D, and piping/mechanical disciplines. The project team has been established at Ramboll's brand new head office, which not only provides world class working conditions for the team, but also – with its location close to Copenhagen airport - facilitates easy and efficient travel to and from customer, partners and site locations. The FEED study will run until June 2012 and is an upgrade of an already existing FEED study, which was carried out in 2010. The present FEED will eventually be implemented through an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
