| Customers hit the energy-saving lottery With Washington's unemployment rate hovering around 9.3 percent since November 2010, keeping extra money into their monthly budgets may interest many residents. To help customers save energy and money, Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is offering more than one million customers rebates towards the purchase of ENERGY STAR -rated hybrid electric heat pump water heaters. PSE has doubled its rebate from $250 to now $500 on qualified hybrids, also called heat pump water heaters, such as the GE GeoSpring hybrid electric water heater. With the PSE rebate, tax incentives, and discounts from manufacturers such as GE, homeowners can be almost completely reimbursed for a new water heater purchase. "At two times the efficiency of a conventional storage water heater, heat pump water heaters are the most efficient electric water heaters on the market and could be the best strategy for saving money and energy," says Dennis Rominger, energy efficiency services program manager for PSE's heat pump water heater rebate program. "Many Pacific Northwest consumers may not realize a traditional water heater is the second largest energy-consuming appliance in their homes," says Kelly Lum Malone, Seattle area merchandising specialist for GE Appliances & Lighting. "By updating your old water heater with an ENERGY STAR hybrid water heater like the GeoSpring, you can 'do your part' by cutting down on the amount of electricity used to heat water in your home daily." The GeoSpring saves homeowners up to $320 every year. If every customer who uses electricity to heat their water took advantage of this opportunity, the nine counties PSE serves electricity to could save $200 million every year – money that could be funneled back into the local economy. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
