| Leighton wins new mine contracts in Australia and Asia Following immediately on a successful sale of mine projects in Western Australia, Hochtief's Australian subsidiary Leighton has secured new contract mining orders. In Indonesia, subsidiary Thiess is to operate two mines in East Kalimantan for three more years. This bolsters the order backlog by some EUR 368 million (USD 500 million). Days earlier, Thiess won a contract in Australia's Pilbara region for development work on a new iron ore mine. The project is worth some EUR 72 million (AUD 100 million). PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia has operated the Teguh Sinar Abadi and Firman Ketaun Perkasa coal mines near the Indonesian city of Melak on behalf of the PT Bayan Resources mining group for some years. The Leighton subsidiary will now continue to develop the mine from January 1, 2012 with production of approximately five million metric tons of coal per annum. At the Solomon Hub iron ore mine in Australia, Thiess is to support the Fortescue Metals Group with development works. The Leighton subsidiary's responsibilities include initial pioneering, establishing haul roads as well as mining early ore and waste. Iron ore is to be mined from 2012. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
