Flatiron wins awards in Canada

Flatiron, one of the largest transportation and infrastructure contractors in North America, has won two awards from the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association. Flatiron won the 2010 ARHCA Safety Award in the over 200,000 hours category, with zero lost-time claims, and Flatiron's Athabasca River Bridge project won a 2011 ARHCA Environment Award for construction operations that enhance the environment.

The ARHCA Safety Awards recognize Alberta companies in five categories for safety achievement. Flatiron had the most person-hours in the largest employer category, the over 200,000 hours group, with no lost-time claims during the 2010 calendar year. Safety is one of Flatiron's Core Values, and the company has been honored throughout the construction industry for its safety achievements.

Flatiron was selected for the ARHCA Environmental Award in the reduced environmental impact from activity or operations award category based on the project's originality, results and the ability to replicate results in future projects. The Athabasca River Bridge was built using a launched-girder construction technique that minimized environmental impacts to the river below, a fish habitat and spawning area.

Both awards will be presented at the 2011 ARHCA Convention and Trade Show on November 18 in Banff, Alberta.
