| Diver-less technology revolutionizes marine industry Creative problem-solving by the WorleyParsons Marine Environment team has resulted in the adaption of breakthrough technology that has changed the marine monitoring industry forever. WorleyParsons Australia West Marine Environment team has exclusive access to bespoke technology that enables us to offer our customers a complete diverless solution for marine monitoring, which has eliminated 1500 diving hours and 2800 field hours from our project delivery in the last 12 months. This range of technology allows coral health, sedimentation and water quality to be monitored remotely resulting in increased data capture whilst meeting or exceeding all regulator requirements and removing the need for divers to operate in highly hazardous environments with low visibility and other dangers. This innovative thinking ensured WorleyParsons was the standout winner at the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) Oil & Gas Safety Innovation Awards, winning both National Overall Winner and Industry Choice Winner for their Complete Diverless Solutions for Marine Monitoring. When presenting the Complete Diverless Solutions at the 2011 APPEA Oil and Gas Safety conference Peter Mellor, Manager Marine &Terrestrial Sciences for WorleyParsons demonstrated the value of this approach by relaying how in 2010 crocodiles had re-inhabited the Port Hedland Inner Harbour for the first time in 30 years. At the time, WorleyParsons' Marine Environment team was responsible for the monitoring of 35 million cubic metres of dredging for three dredge programs and had a near-continuous presence in the Inner Harbour. One of the new technologies, the Sedimentation Scanner, was used to continue to monitor sedimentation in the mangroves without exposing people to the additional risk of being eaten. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
