Waterproofing the foundations of a wind turbine

There can be few applications as demanding as waterproofing the foundations of a wind turbine - subject to continual mechanical stress and vibration, as well as being in highly exposed situations that endure significant thermal movement. It is a fairly compelling endorsement of the performance characteristics of Kemperol waterproofing that it is rapidly becoming the product of choice for this specialist application. These massive civil engineering structures are anchored onto concrete foundations which on completion are embedded in the ground, with the steel turret attached to the base using immensely strong fixings.

The foundation as well as the junction with the turret has to be waterproofed using a material that will fully bond to both the concrete substrate and the upstand without the use of mechanical or adhesive fixings. Most importantly for this application the membrane must be permanently elastic to withstand movement as well as being permeable to water vapour. It is this combination of performance features that makes Kemperol so highly suited to this type of application. Little wonder that on the more common, but relatively benign application of a flat roof, Kemperol should have a trouble-free life expectancy well in excess of 25 years.
