| Utility Base for post top luminaires Sentry Electric introduced its new Utility Base for post top luminaires. The Utility Base series combines classic, historic styling with design features that help facilitate luminaire maintenance and reduce operating costs. Utilities, municipalities, streetlight maintenance contractors, and facility personnel will appreciate working with the easily accessible ballast housing as well as realize improved safety during service operations. Road construction personnel, as cited by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, experience on the job injuries and fatalities at much higher rates than most other professions. Within this category are utility workers and other professionals that frequently perform streetlight maintenance. They encounter elevated risks while servicing lights along roadways and other busy public spaces. And for motorists and pedestrians, servicing of luminaires means frustration, as traffic lanes, sidewalks, and pathways must be closed down to allow service crews to perform their tasks. Sentry's new Utility Base series has a feature set that positively contributes to faster and easier servicing, which will inherently reduce safety risks, reduce traffic congestion, reduce maintenance costs, and relieve stress for all involved. The first significant feature of the Utility Base series is the easily removable access door. A tool-less spring latch allows service personnel to quickly open and close the door without having to utilize screw drivers and other similar tools. A safety cable on the door prevents it from falling to the ground below, where it could inadvertently cause injury to service personnel and passersby. Once inside the ballast chamber, service personnel will appreciate the large opening and the easily removable ballast tray, which slides out to allow access to the electrical components. The ballast tray is modular, and utilizes quick disconnects for power supply conductors and lamp socket conductors. The ballast tray also has an option for a NEMA locking type photo control. This style of control allows for the broadest offering of photo control options while simultaneously reducing the necessary time for photo control servicing. The exterior of the Utility Base is encompassed by contours and design elements that seamlessly blend with the aesthetics of Sentry Electric's luminaires and decorative poles. The expanded ballast housing, which is, on the whole, imperceptible to motorists and pedestrians alike, is an option with which the design community has readily expressed architectural acceptance. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
