| ODEN builds metro in Helsinki, new district in Stockholm and motorway in Sweden ODEN Anläggningsentreprenad AB, the fully-owned Swedish subsidiary of Austrian Strabag construction group, has been commissioned to build three new infrastructure projects in Sweden and Finland. Länsimetro Oy awarded ODEN the contract to establish a 1.8 km track tunnel with intermediate stations for the metro phase 1, LU1 Matinkylä in Helsinki, Finland. The works will start in August 2011 and are expected to be completed in November 2013. The contract value is approximately € 28 million. Furthermore, ODEN, which is specialised in the construction of tunnels, bridges and other transportation infrastructure, was assigned to build a part of Sweden's largest new city district, Norra Djurgårdsstaden in Stockholm. After starting phase 1 of the project, ODEN was also awarded by the City of Stockholm to undertake the works for phase 2 as well. The assignment includes piling, pile concrete decks, water and sewage pipes works and roads. The works started in June 2011 and are expected to be finished by October 2012. The contract value is approximately € 22 million. Norra Djurgårdsstaden is to be developed in central Stockholm over the coming years. It stretches from Hjorthagen in the North, through the port area, to Loudden in the South. This urban development contains plans for 10, 000 new residences and 30, 000 new workspaces and can be compared with other European urban development projects, such as those in Copenhagen, Oslo and Hamburg. Planning started in the early 2000s, and the new city district will be fully developed around 2025. Finally, ODEN has been commissioned by Trafikverket (The Swedish Transport Administration) to build the section Edet Rasta and Torpa of the motorway E45, a part of the way between Göteborg and Trollhättan, which connects the North to the South of Sweden. The project consists of extending more than five kilometres of existing two lane road into four lanes with median separation and two fauna passages (passages under the motorway, mainly for wildlife). The contract value amounts to € 26 million. Construction is planned to take part between August 2011 and July 2013. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
