Exclusive preview at Tendence: Triennial for Design and Content

Curtain up on the 10th Triennial for Design and Content. From 6 October 2011 to 29 January 2012, an exhibition of the Museum for Applied Art (MAK) in Frankfurt will present innovative works by more than 100 artists in the fields of furniture design, fashion, ceramics and tableware. Visitors not wanting to wait until the opening in the autumn can obtain an exclusive foretaste at this year's international Tendence consumer-goods fair (26 to 30 August 2011) where 18 artists will be showing the multi-faceted use of materials – in products and as a source of inspiration – under the motto of the 10th Triennial, 'Materials Revisited'.

One of the artists is Nika Rams, a designer who light-heartedly draws attention to the subject of energy wastage – subversively, a bath plug blocks the electricity socket. Striking ways in which wood can be sculpted are demonstrated by Benjamin Planitzer. The fine structures of his skeletal pieces are reminiscent of ancient coral reefs and illustrate a use of natural raw materials that is both creative and sustainable. One of Marion Heilig's sources of inspiration is tin cans and this resulted in, for example, her 'Paprika' necklace.

The Museum for Applied Art (MAK) in Frankfurt am Main has been organising the Triennial for Design and Content for over 30 years. Traditionally, Tendence is the biggest and most important order and trend platform in the second half of the year and is split into two main parts, Giving und Living. While Giving reflects the whole world of creative gift ideas, Living is the platform for the home, decorating and furnishing. From 26 to 30 August 2011, Tendence presents the latest trends for the coming autumn / winter season and offers a preview of new products for the spring and summer season of the following year.
