Arcadis advises on new attraction at Legoland Windsor

Arcadis, a leading provider of consultancy, design, engineering and management services has advised as CDM on the newly opened Atlantis Submarine Voyage attraction at Legoland, Windsor. The £8 million attraction is the world's first Lego-themed aquarium tank, complete with eight custom-built yellow submarines, each one transporting up to 14 passengers at a time into a shark infested, ocean-style world. Arcadis provided Health and Safety consultancy during the development of this groundbreaking attraction, which incorporates a million litre tank and submarines that submerge guests beneath the water where they can view Zebra Sharks, Nurse Sharks and over 2,500 fish.

Working alongside up to 50 other contractors, Arcadis provided a CDM Coordinator service for the scheme. Many of the contractors were new to the UK, and Arcadis held a workshop to ensure everyone understood UK health and safety rules, drawing on its experience of working globally to explain the differences.

The Atlantis Submarine Voyage attraction opened in late May 2011. Over 1,000 guests per hour can enjoy the ride and the Lego models took model makers an estimated 2,683 hours to create. The distinctive Lego-themed submarines weigh 11 tonnes each and are made from glass-reinforced plastic. The submarines travel around the ocean tank at 0.22 metres per second.
