| First Lady of Austria is sponsor of Koralm tunnel  The KAT2 joint venture celebrated the start of tunnel boring for the Koralm Railway Tunnel. Approximately 300 invited guests attended the ceremony, including representatives from the companies handling the construction, Strabag and Jäger Bau, as well as numerous politicians and guests of honour.The welcome speech was delivered by Hans Peter Haselsteiner, CEO of Strabag SE, Franz Voves, Governor of Styria, and Georg-Michael Vavrovsky, Member of the Board of Management of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG. The wife of the President of Austria, Margit Fischer, described her role as tunnel sponsor as a prestigious task before masterfully setting off the blast marking the start of tunnelling works, broadcast live into the marquee. In their speeches, the guests of honour stressed the importance of the Koralm Railway as part of the future link-up of southern Austria to the trans-European rail network. The tunnel, with a length of 32.9 km, is the heart of the 130 km Koralm Railway between Graz and Klagenfurt.
