| T5HO 47-Watt UltraStart Watt-Miser System Illuminating high ceilings in warehouses, retail, property management and other commercial and industrial settings just got easier and more efficient with the introduction of GE Lighting's T5HO 47-watt UltraStart Watt-Miser System. Ideal for high-bay or commercial troffer applications, the linear system uses GE's best fluorescent technology to produce nearly the same light output of a 54-watt system with greater performance and energy advantages. "The T5HO 47-watt system is the next evolution in a line of GE T5 UltraStart Watt-Miser products that represent a huge leap in energy savings and performance for energy-conscious building owners and specifying consultants," says Jeff Plaskon, North America ballast product manager, GE Lighting. "Overhead lighting is critical to a building's overall environment and is often a huge source of energy consumption. At GE, our engineers understand that, and this new solution combines energy savings with parallel lamp operation, long lamp life and hassle-free maintenance features, such as independent lamp end-of-life protection (IEOL)." A four-lamp T5HO 47-watt system consumes just 202 watts of energy while delivering 95 lumens per watt. By comparison, a standard four-lamp 54-watt T5 system eats up roughly 234 watts, while delivering less efficiency, roughly 85 lumens per watt. The 32-watts-per-system difference translates to more than a 13 percent energy savings per fixture, or $26 in savings per lamp, which adds up quickly in large facilities consisting of hundreds or thousands of lamps. In addition to its energy-saving benefits, customers also will appreciate the system's long life and hassle-free maintenance. The lamps are rated for 30,000 hours on a three-hour operating cycle, which extends the relamping cycle and offers lower maintenance costs. Plus, GE's UltraStart T5 ballasts operate lamps in parallel mode, a design attribute that keeps lamps working when other lamps fail. This functionality reduces the need for immediate re-lamping that is typical when using conventional ballasts. Adding to its maintenance benefits, the UltraStart ballasts in this product line feature an anti-striation control function that reduces the potential for striating lamps, often referred to as spiraling or swirling. Ultimately, this provides flicker- and worry–free performance. The product line also boasts arc–guard protection, a design that eliminates the damaging effects arcing can have on lamps, ballasts and sockets. Lastly, unlike conventional systems which don't always protect against overheating, the GE system is UL certified to operate up to 55 C due to a thermal foldback protection circuit within the ballast. The system is RoHS compliant, a standard of GE ballasts that is important when considering future disposal needs. It is backed by a four-year lamp limited warranty and a five–year ballast limited warranty, and is available with lamps in both cool and warm color temperatures, all featuring a high CRI. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
