Finland's Pöyry awarded assignment for metro project in Peru

Pöyry's Urban & Mobility business group has been awarded a design review and construction supervision contract by PROVIAS/AATE for the metro system in Lima and Callao. The services cover both the civil works and the electromechanical systems. Pöyry's share of the assignment is EUR 6.4 million.

The project consists of the construction of a new 12 km section (Stage 2) of Line 1. The project is estimated to be completed in September 2013. It will be executed in cooperation with the Peruvian engineering firm CESEL S.A., the same company which is at the moment carrying out the supervision of the Stage 1 together with Pöyry.

When the Stage 2 is completed, it will connect two of the most populated districts of Lima: Villa El Salvador in the south and San Juan de Lurigancho in the north east. The line will pass through 10 districts of Lima, thus being within reach of more than 3 million inhabitants. There will be 26 passenger stations and the system is estimated to carry 300 000 passengers a day with a minimum headway of 180 seconds.
