Leighton reaches financial close for hospital project in Australia

Via its Group company Leighton Contractors, Australia's top contractor Leighton has reached financial close on Australia's biggest public-private-partnership (PPP) healthcare project. A consortium around the Leighton subsidiary will design and construct the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, for a good EUR 1.35 billion (AUD 1.85 billion). Leighton Contractors' share of this is approximately EUR 658.4 million (AUD 900 million). As one of five equity investors, the Leighton subsidiary will invest approximately EUR 49.8 million (AUD 68.1 million) in the project.

Upon completion in 2016, the Royal Adelaide Hospital will offer a total of 800 beds. To provide greater infection control, all patients will be accommodated in single rooms with own bathrooms. In addition, the hospital will feature, among others, 40 operating theaters and an underground car park with 2,300 bays.
