| Down-the-hole drilling rig Sandvik's new generation of down-the-hole drill rigs is the Sandvik DI550. The new machine offers unique productivity and user comfort in 5" hammer drilling. Businesses, large and medium sized quarries and contractors in particular, constantly need to improve the productivity of their operations. This means that it is of great importance to choose machines that do exactly the job they are supposed to - no more, no less. The new Sandvik DI550 is the machine that meets these criteria. It is a down-the-hole drilling rig with features a 324 kW diesel engine and a 24.4 m3 compressor air flow at 24 bar pressure – making the machine a perfect match for the 5" DTH hammer. This careful match of power and hammer size makes the rig uniquely productive, whilst keeping fuel consumption and operating costs as low as possible. Cost effective machine performance is further enhanced by other advanced features such as active diesel RPM control, optimized diesel RPM level during drilling and active control of compressor running temperature. On top of high performance, simple and comfortable machine operation was in focus during product development. Featuring a modern, accurate control system with simple icon displays and comprehensive service information, the new DI550 thus enables seamless co-operation of man and machine. The rig's modern, over-pressurized ROPS and FOPS certified cab with its advanced ergonomic, efficient air conditioning, and excellent visibility, further add to the operator comfort. The large windshield comes with a strong safety bar that is easy to open for cleaning. The new, efficient dust collector with non-stop cleaning decreases the amount of dust emissions to the environment. It also improves filter lifetime and, therefore, reduces the need for maintenance. Other features that translate into easy maintenance and thus low downtime include the engine compartment's open layout, easy cooler cleaning, modular compressor control system and simplified electric system. All daily maintenance points are located on the ground level to simplify the process and improve safety of service personnel. A fast fuel filling option and large fuel tank further cut costly downtime. The new DTH line has benefited from Sandvik's experience in top hammer drilling solutions. The two product lines share many solutions, components and test procedure. Similarity between the two creates a commonness offering clear advantages for service and maintenance. The DI550 is suited to work at its maximum performance with Sandvik's RH550 hammers from 3" to 5". The RH550 hammers come with bits from 90 up to 152 millimeters with three different bit face designs. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
