| Ramboll wins prize for best steel construction in Sweden Danish consultancy firm Ramboll has been awarded the 2011 Steel Construction Prize for its Discfilter Facility at the water treatment plant, Ryaverket, in Gothenburg. The jury described the multi-award winning facility as an exercise in efficient and elegant use of steel. The Swedish Institute of Steel Construction (SBI) hands out the prestigious award to Sweden's best steel building every other year. The Discfilter Facility won in competition with nine other high profile projects. Fredrik Einarsson, Project Manager, Structural Engineering in Gothenburg, worked on the facility and attended the price ceremony together with his Ramboll colleague Falk Lehwald. The water treatment plant contains 40 discfilters which are placed in two large halls. According to the judges this construction was the one which best demonstrated consistent use of steel, both regarding function and architectural expression. The environment surrounding the facility also influenced the design. The strong focus on creating a visually appealing and clean building has certainly been a success. The highly acclaimed building has already won the 2010 Kasper Salin Prize and is also a candidate for the 2011 European Steel Design Awards later this year. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
