| World's leading electron microscope opens at Linköping University One of the world's leading electron microscopes will open at Linköping University in Sweden this spring. Danish consultancy firm Ramboll has been responsible for construction and electrical / telecommunications design as well as system documentation, cost estimation and preparation of tender documents. The unique building has been designed by Tham & Videgård Architects. The building's unusual design and the strict requirements for the building's stability, vibration sensitivity and shielding of electromagnetic fields, made it a complex building to design. The 3.7 meter high instrument is placed in a specially designed room in the building. The remaining space consists of lab rooms, a control room/conference room and an equipment room. The microscope will allow state-of-the-art research and will attract researchers and students from across the world to Linköping. The research will improve the understanding of atoms and how they connect to each other, how materials work and thus enable a better understanding of the properties of different types of materials. The close cooperation between Tham & Videgård and Ramboll meant that the high ambitions could be fulfilled. In addition to the building for the electronic microscope, Ramboll has also designed a track and field / soccer stadium for outdoor sports in Linköping. The stadium is equipped with a running track that can be frozen in winter by cooling coils and be used as an iceskating rink. In addition to these projects Ramboll has also designed new laboratory and research facilities for medical research. write your comments about the article :: © 2011 Construction News :: home page |
