Ramboll wins a large contract in downtown Oslo

Ramboll in Oslo has won a large contract for KLP in downtown Oslo. The contract includes construction of new commercial and office buildings of approx. 85,000 square metres and demolition of existing 60, 000 square metres buildings from the seventies. The construction site is situated between Biskop Gunnerus' gate and Oslo Central Station. According to Project Manager, Rolf Hauan, this development will be Oslo's new landmark.

Demolition in this location is a challenge because it is situated close to the tracks at the Central Station and main roads. Experience has shown that demolition of buildings from this period of time also creates major environmental challenges.

The new building houses two basement floors and two floors including a shopping mall. The office area consists of three separate blocks. The two lower blocks will be eight and ten floors high and the third 24 floors high. The total height will be approximately 88 meters above street level. The project focuses on environmental and sustainability issues as KLP intends to achieve a 'very good' rating under the standard BREEAM scheme. This was emphasised in Ramboll's offer.

The work began in late February. Demolition work is scheduled to commence in 2012, and construction of the new building in 2013.
