Hochtief Solutions builds Thames Tunnel in London

Hochtief Solutions, the management company of the Hochtief Europe division, has now been awarded a tunnel project in London. With its joint venture partner J. Murphy & Sons the company is constructing two tunnels with a total length of around eight kilometers in southeast London for state-owned Crossrail. Hochtief is the lead company of the roughly EUR 220 million project. Hochtief 's share in the joint venture is 50 percent.

The Thames Tunnel is part of a large infrastructure project which will link the East and West London rail routes. Scheduled for completion in Q2 2015, the new line will connect the district of Plumstead to North Woolwich and link the existing North Kent rail line to Crossrail. Construction work will start this month. The two tunnel boring machines will start in Plumstead while rail operations continue and will progress under Woolwich before reaching the end destination at North Woolwich close to London City Airport. The joint venture will also construct all portal structures of the link.
